1904 World's Fair Flight Cage Renovation
The 1904 World's Fair Flight Cage was transformed into a “Cypress Swamp” exhibit in time for the 100 year anniversary of the World's Fair. SWT Design was retained to provide design and construction document expertise for the exhibit. The Cypress Swamp has brought new life and life forms to the 1904 World's Fair Flight Cage. The swamp is the first major animal exhibit at the St. Louis Zoo to focus on native animals and ecosystems. Once common throughout the Mississippi River bottomlands, this rich habitat is characterized by the presence of the majestic bald cypress tree. The exhibit allows zoo visitors to be surrounded by an ecosystem and relive what it was like living along the Mississippi more than 100 years ago.
“SWT
Design completely changed the interior landscape complimenting
the architectural elements of this historical project. Being an
architect it was an opportunity for me to collaborate with SWT
Design and provide ideas. It was a project that I enjoyed
working on the architectural elements alongside the team.”
– David McGuire, Vice President of
Architecture and Planning,
